History

AlaBike was incorporated in the state of Alabama as a non-profit organization in Sept 2003 and obtained 501(c)3 federal non-profit status in December of 2005. The Alabama Bicycle Coalition, AlaBike, was formed to promote cycling access, education and safety, to advocate for safer road environments for all users, and to act as a statewide voice to encourage bicycling in Alabama.

2010 Events

AMBA 2 was spectacular!

Our second AMBA had perfect cool mornings – 70s and 80s and warmed through the day. We avoided all rain. Those doing the reduced mileage rode on the same routes as the longer mileage they just started along the route instead of at the park. Our Annual picnic shutdown at nine PM because of a threatening thunderstorm. People appreciated the new route marking system, the cue sheets, and maps. The link to pictures is in the gallery on the AMBA website www.amba1.com.
Next year’s event will be May 21‐28, 2011.

At right, Representative Oberstar of MN is one of the biggest Congressional supporters of cycling. He is a cyclist himself and the chairman of the House Transportation committee. He always kicks off the NBS hill walk with a rally. This photo was submitted by Jamie Miernik.

AMBA 1 a Huge Success!more copy about long shadows bike ride

The first annual AMBA ride (Alabama's Magnificent Bicycle Adventure) held from May 22-30 was a big hit! About 45 riders from 17 states camped out for a week in Auburn and rode scenic, historic loops in a new direction each day! A few days of rain did not dampen their spirits (well, not too much!), but it made the surroundings lush and green, and when the sun did come out later in the week, it was a welcome site! Everyone was smiling and met great new friends! To see photos from the 2009 innaugural event, go here. For more information on the next upcoming AMBA ride, go to amba1.com.
