Huntsville Marjorie J. Holderer moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1982. She married an Alabamian and is here for good. She was born in Portland and raised in Corvallis, Oregon. She graduated from Portland State University with a BS in Geography. She has worked for federal, county, and city planning divisions as well as for Lockheed (Johnson Space Center) and Intergraph (Huntsville). She is currently retired and volunteers on civic committees, in gardening organizations, and in a local bicycle club. Vice-President,
Huntsville George Hamilton was born and raised in Huntsville, AL and has lived there all his life. He’s an Eagle Scout, and has a lifelong passion for hiking and camping. George has degrees in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering, and worked construction in Saudi Arabia. He is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Alabama, and has worked for NASA for more than 19 years. He’s also a member and an officer in several technical societies, and has been active in AlaBike for several years. Like most kids of his generation, he rode bikes everywhere, but left them behind for several decades. In recent years he has returned to cycling on a long wheelbase recumbent (Tour Easy-a “Lazy Boy with pedals”), and rode the BAMA cycle tour in 2004 & 2005. He’s attended the National Bike Summit, and is committed to becoming an LCI. He also enjoys building and firing combustion spud guns, and is a lifelong tinkerer. He lives in downtown Huntsville with his delightful wife, Laura, a Madison County Circuit Court Judge, and they have two college age daughters Lucy & Josie.
Hartselle Keith has been bicycling since about 1998. He did his first bicycle tour (BAMA) in 2000 and now does about three tours each year all around the United States plus many century rides. He has lived in Hartselle for the last six years and previously in Decatur for about 20 years. He has a degree in accounting and retired as a company controller about 8 years ago. He believes Alabike is important to the State. We are behind many other states in providing bike lanes and motorist awareness of cyclists to make cycling safer and more popular for the people of Alabama.
Huntsville Morgan Andriulli is a lifelong Alabama resident who has cycled actively since 1990. He gravitated towards bike racing when he discovered he could climb hills faster than most other riders and found it as effective payback for being a completely inept at almost all forms of team ball sports as a youth. He enjoys doing big, hilly centuries, occasional road racing, mountain biking, touring on vacation and “discussions” irate motorists. He retired as a pack-fodder masters racer in 2004 after breaking his femur and shoulder during a training ride. As a year-round bike commuter he is interested in seeing AlaBike become instrumental in affecting state policy towards safer, bike-friendly road design and alternative transportation funding. As a founding board member, his most recent contributions have been directing the successful Four Hills Century and co-directing the 2007 Huntsville Summer Races, both fundraisers for AlaBike. The events have netted over $15000. His current project is the completion in 2008 of the book, Fifty Alabama Bicycle Rides… With Barbecue. It will be the first comprehensive ride guide for the state of Alabama. Morgan's professional background is in aerospace and mechanical engineering, technical and creative writing.
Birmingham Well the picture kind of speaks for itself. My dad got me started on a bike at an early age and I have been riding ever since. Every year, for the last 5 years I have done a week long bike tour with my dad and my daughters. I set a women's record for crossing the state of Alabama in 2005. Right now I am treasurer for Alabike and have been an active member since 2006. In 1986, I graduated the University of South Carolina with a Business Degree, moved to Birmingham, Alabama and married. I am a firefighter with the City of Birmingham. My favorite thing about Alabama is you can ride your bike year round and it is one of the most beautiful places to live. My favorite thing about Alabike is that we have a dedicated group of people who are doing a terrific job of promoting bicycle education, legislation, tourism, and making things even better for cyclists across the state. Birmingham Bio coming soon!
Huntsville As a child, Michael enjoyed riding around his parent’s circular driveway, with a few excursions beyond. During his teens and college life, he rode a Huffy as a pleasant recreation. In early adulthood, he always had a bike and rode it as time for a young parent allowed. In 1994, he encountered the Spring City Cycling Club just as they were planning a bike trip up to Lynchburg, TN. That was a fun trip ,Michael recalls how they crowded a dozen folks into one B&B room! Back then, he rode then in blue jeans, and withstood the good-natured comments of his new friends to get "real" cycling clothes. After riding through that winter, he acquiesced and bought a nicer bike and cycling shorts. Soon thereafter, he inadvertently rode his first Century and became Rides Captain in the bike club. He helped create new routes, and even organized the fall All-You-Can-Eat Century. Around the year 2000, the local Mayor nominated Michael to the local Citizen’s Advisory Committee of our MPO. Advocacy hit a new level with the formation of AlaBike, to which he has been involved from the beginning. Michael and his wife Marjorie enjoy traveling to cycling events, or cycling nearby. He continues to ride a fair amount, averaging 2,000 miles per year, about half is commuting to work.
Huntsville Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jamie lived in the Seattle, Washington area for 6 years and been in Huntsville nearly 20 years, Jamie has ridden bikes all of her life, primarily as a means of alternative transportation. She first discovered bike clubs after moving to Huntsville and tried racing. Part-time commuting, long challenging bike rides, and touring are intermediate goals set each year for fitness milestones or vacations. For many years, cycling was merely a sideline to more serious athletic pursuits in basketball, softball, and snow skiing. Now, after the ankles have given out, cycling and golf are her passions. Janie goes by “Jamie” and works at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, AL for ERC, Inc., as a senior Mechanical Engineer. A chemical engineer by degree, she has worked in engineering since 1984. She is a member of the Spring City Cycling Club (SCCC) and has served in various club leadership positions. She is also active with the Safe Kids Coalition in Huntsville. Since 1999, she has been involved in bicycle advocacy in Huntsville and took an interest in the statewide effort in 2002. She has attended the LAB National Bike Summit seven times and a Thunderhead Alliance training workshop in 2003 to prepare to start the Alabama Bicycle Coalition. She is a founding member of the City of Huntsville Bicycle Advisory Safety Committee (BASC). Jamie was the founding president of AlaBike and has continued as a board member Tracy Hale, Education Chairman Birmingham Bio to come.
Huntsville Ken has lived for 5 years in Huntsville, AL. He was a system engineer for 28 years working on numerous Department of Defense programs. Now retired, he is spending more time advancing causes of bicycling in Alabama. This allowed him to participate in both of the AlaBike AMBA bicycle rides. He is now the Community Affairs officer for the Spring City Cycling Club (SCCC) and is a member of the city of Huntsville’s Bicycle Advisory Safety Committee (BASC). He has led several SCCC “Ride A Metric” (RAM) ride series for new club members who want to ride longer distances. He will be attending the Alliance Retreat for Bicycling and Walking in Chattanooga in September 2010. Legislative Chairman TBD
